What are Anatomy Trains?

Traditional anatomical perspective; Emphasizes isolated muscles running end-to-end, bone to bone. Anatomy Trains expands our understanding of myofascial force transmission and its effects. That is, the strain distribution (in both healthy and patients) may be at a distance from the injury site or the painful area.

This book clearly describes the functionally integrated body continuities within the fascial meshwork that make up the traceable 'meridians' of the myofascia. Stability, strain, tension, fixation, flexibility and postural compensation are distributed along these lines. Based on the meridian map, this book offers manual and movement therapists many new strategies to improve posture and movement function.

Theoretically, it offers the following benefits to the practitioner:
Anatomy Trains is valid whatever your approach. Once the patterns are recognized, these meridians can be conveniently applied in assessment and treatment using a variety of therapeutic and educational approaches to movement facilitation.
The theory provides a stronger "three-dimensional" feel for musculoskeletal anatomy, while enabling the evaluation of compensation distributions in all body patterns in daily life and functional performance.
Clinically, it demonstrates how, in theory, pain in one part of the body can be linked to the "silent space" away from the problem, resulting in new treatment strategies for this condition.

Thomas Myers, Dr. Ida Rolf, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and Dr. Along with Buckminster Fuller, he has worked directly with various movement and manual therapy leaders. His work was influenced by his studies of cranial, visceral and intrinsic movement with the European Schools of Osteopathy. A resident traveler, Tom has practiced holistic manual therapy for over 30 years in a variety of clinical and cultural settings, including a dozen locales in the US, as well as practices in London, Hamburg, Rome, Nairobi and Sydney. It is a founding member of the International Association of Structural Integrators (IASI). Based on the coast of Maine, Tom and his faculty conduct professional certification and continuing education courses around the world.
